Overcoming Life’s 9/11’s

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

In our lives there will be times in life when we will be standing on the precipice life’s trials. Often the distance between victory and defeat will be the very slimmest of margins. In those moments we need God along our side guiding our every step. By passionately studying we learn that the God of the Old Testament, which I previously believed to be harsh, to be one of great love and compassion.  As tribulations reign down in our lives in ever cascading waves of terror we are forced to our knees in prayer to discover that the God we thought had forsaken us had never left our side. Just as the terrors fell on the fateful day of 9/11 so are our very lives, children, health, jobs, and marriages threatened as we strive to thrive in this world. By leaning on the very word of God through life’s fiery paths, we are able to gain the wisdom of the ages and needed strength to weather moments and seasons of life of excruciating pain.  By studying Job’s life, we are able to discover how to overcome life’s obstacles discovering that God has made a path or our escape and via our salvation guaranteed our ultimate destiny and reward. There is a reason to anticipate unexpected success and to continue on in great faith irrespective of might befall us.  Though we might all see ourselves as ordinary, God sees each and every one of us as anything but that. Each and every one of us is uniquely poised to overcome life with the power and majesty of our heavenly Father. Though we cannot choose our sufferings, we can choose the power of God in helping us overcome each and every trial.

Super Tuesday

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Super Tuesday is finally here. The largest primary ever with over twenty-four states voting with over 2600 plus total delegates combined to be determined. Super Tuesday will be, by far, the largest primary to date and may well ultimately determine who our next President will be. Over 52% of the Democratic delegates and 41% of the Republican delegates will be determined on Tuesday thus dramatically shaping who will be serving as our President for the next many years. Just the past two weeks we had several of the minor candidates dropping out allowing for both our ability to focus on just a few candidates to vote for and for the candidates themselves in determining as to who they might be running against. Though many pundits believe Huckabee to be a potential spoiler, I believe, absent a dramatic turn of events for the good, that he will also soon be dropping out of the race leaving it a “two horse” race on both the Democratic and Republican sides.

When casting your vote remember to consider:

-It is not a popularity contest. Read and understand the issues and where each candidate stands on those which are most important to you.

-Vote your conscience. What would God have you do. Pray over your options and who seems to have the best interest of the country and its people at stake.

-Evaluate each and every candidate as to who will be able to best stand the heat when things get tough. Consider who will be able to do what is right when it is not the popular choice. Remember your next president could perhaps run for re-election in four years and could well be your President for eight years.

-Contemplate whether your candidate will leave the country better off after he is elected than before while carefully evaluating their honesty, level of fiscal responsibility, and commitment to both domestic and international issues. A President of the 21st century is due to impact not only the U.S. at large but the world as a whole.

-Consider your candidate of choice able to weather the tough times and lead from ahead rather than shrinking behind advisers while still being humble enough to seek the wise counsel of others.

Our country, our lives, and the lives of our children depend on our choices today so on this Super Tuesday I believe all should start the day in prayer seeking God’s ultimate advice and counsel.
