Duluth GA CPA on Being a Christian Business Owner Mean..Taking Christianity Into the World
Whether you are Methodist, Baptist, Catholic, Presbyterian or Episcopal, God calls us all as Believers to be above the world and not part of it. As such as Business Owners, Entrepreneurs or Workers God calls us to a higher standard to serve God rather than man in all that we do. This requires us to think outside the box and to be proactive seeking to serve clients well beyond the call of others. Often we hear of such ideology, we feel called to respond, but no not how we might be able to effect this transition from average to excellence. So, to help illustrate what examples of such theoretical conversation, I chose one of the most boring of all professions, to most people, my own: accounting. Though I love accounting, being a CPA and having my own CPA firm here in Metro Atlanta, I know most of you do not share any of my enthusiasm and as such I chose to illustrate my profession how one may excel in all areas of service, even while being a CPA.
Communication. Communicate all material facts before client needs/asks.
Planning. Tax plan, Tax plan, Tax plan. For quarterly’s and monthly’s update formally (in writing) at least quarterly. Always let client know where they stand this year vs. last year – sales, profits and withholdings.
Zero Defects. Fix all problems before client knows they have problems. Visit clients (with their approval) to help set up controls and procedures to have zero errors in their data and our reports. Goal: Change high maintenance clients (lots of errors) to high service clients. Change from client correction to client advice.
Documentation. Written communications of sales and profits quarterly re: year to date and quarterly sales vs. last year or anticipated levels. Goal: No Surprises.
Repetitiveness. Doing the right things over and over. Twice annually (in writing) give them advice no one expected (i.e., insurance needs, estate planning, collection procedures, cash flow issues, lines of credit, etc., etc.)
Prioritization. Always consider others better than ourselves while being sure to be sensitive to areas of critical need, emergencies, deadlines and clients individual needs, while being sure to exceed 100% of the time established deadlines and promised work dates.
Sensitivity. Being sure to over-communicate to all clients keeping them constantly aware of deadlines, tax law changes, and client at least quarterly to create or perpetuate a warm fuzzy feeling. We are where we are because of decisions we made in the past. Our current actions control our future. It is up to us to continue to grow and to serve our clients both with our mind and our heart, being able and willing to drop everything and pray and talk with clients when they need it rather than when we believe convenient.
CPA’s make sense out of a changing world. They are the trusted professionals who enable people and organizations to shape their future. It is up to us as Believers who are to look to the interest of those around us while focusing on our heart condition, while seeing and believing others to be better than ourselves.
Become the change you want to see in the world.
