Going the Distance…Navajo Family Missions Series Day 1… Taking Christianity Into the World

I chose to fight the good fight and to further to kingdom of God.

This is Day 1 of the Navajo Family Mission Series of our Weekly Family Trip To Serve the Navajo People of Pueblo Pintado. It is about sixty people who for an entire week lay down their jobs, vacations and responsibilities to be the very hands and feet of Christ. This is their story. Jesus often withdrew to the solitude of the desert to pray and be strengthened. Come along side us and see the changes of  hearts, passions and lives as God joins us on our journey To catch a further look at our vision for our work there visit http://www.hiscpa.com/blog/2009/07/30/casting-a-vision-navajo-family-missions-taking-christianity-into-the-world/  If you and your church are encouraged by our journey, join us as we look to revival for the Navajo People, by taking Christianity Into the World

Day 1 – July 11, 2009 – Saturday – Travel Day

Saturday morning, Carol woke up at 4:00 a.m.  to meet Elizabeth E. at the church to go to the airport.  They met the Terrell’s, Tami M., Nancy, Quinn, Leigh, Kevin, Bonnie, and several other team members at the gate.   A few of them enjoyed coffee and a muffin from Starbucks before boarding the flight.  The trip was uneventful to Dallas and then on to Albuquerque.  The cloud cover was very light so our “small world” was easily visible from the window of the airplane.

Upon arrival in Albuquerque, this group was greeted by Tami D., John D., Andrew, Madison, Mark W., Lauren, Mark E., Manning, and other team mates who were waiting at the airport for us.  John D. had already begun his mission of love as he had had to talk to the management of the Budget Rental team to get us the vans that Tami D. had reserved in advance.  Somehow, the vans were not there when they arrived to pick them up, and they wanted to offer us SUVs.  Thankfully, the Budget Rental management agreed with John D. that we needed vans and got them to us in time for our journey out to Pueblo Pintado.

Elizabeth E. and Carol rode in Mark W.’s van.  From the time that we left the airport, it became evident to all that John D. driving his “silver bullet” and Mark W. were trying to show all of us who was the best driver.  (Smile).  Over our trip, there would be many driving adventures between these two to see who could maneuver the dirt roads the best.

After eating a big meal at the Golden Corral, we drove out to Pueblo Pintado.  The beauty of the scenery on this drive – the long, flat desert spotted with mesas (these are flat-topped mountains) is amazing. Small towns of houses and churches are nestled in the trees on the sides of some of the mesas.  When we arrived at the reservation, we were given our house assignments.  Rachael and Melarie came by to greet Carol and give her hugs.  It was so good to see them.  She had been keeping in touch with Rachael through the mail and e-mail.

That evening, we had a time of worship led by Andrew, Russ, McKenna, Julianne, Lauren, and Mark.  Tami D. asked Carol to join.  That has truly been an answer to her prayers to be able to sing and be a part of worship at Sugarloaf.  John D. shared with us that if God lays something on your heart, you should share it.  He reminded us that God was the owner of this trip, and that we were here as His representatives to be His hands and feet.  God knew that we needed five vans for this trip, and He provided them for us.  We all need to raise a standard of love.  Get your mind off of Satan and put God up front.  Satan will challenge you, but don’t let Him win.  Jesus won at the cross.  John 3:16 says “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life.  This verse states in basically three short points what we needed to do:  1.  Ask Christ 2.  Accept Christ 3.  Act Christ. John D. and Madison then did a skit to illustrate these points.  John D. gave Madison a free Lamborghini.  He then showed her how to use the car.  John D. then told us that we get so wrapped up in showing love that we forget to show people how to use their faith.  He reminded us that we need to build disciples.  God uses us as His vessels to build disciples.

Kevin then read to us a note from our pastor Stuart.  His text was Ephesians 2:8-10 which says “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.  For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”  He said that the essence in life and what we are created for is to do acts of goodness and kindness.  The best example of love is a life of faithfulness.  John D. then told us that Paul says to be bold in your faith.  Trust in God that He will give you the right words.

Dare to Attempt Something so Great for the Kingdom of God that it is doomed to failure, lest Christ be in it!
