Plain Christian Talk: Telling the Truth…Taking Christianity Into the World

Plain Christian Talk: Telling the Truth…Taking Christianity Into the World

As Believers our first responsibility is to Jesus Christ and therefore our responsibility is to obey the Bible and its precepts. Though the world will do much to blur the lines between truth and fantasy, our calling and our obedience requires us to be not of this world but to be like him. Recently I received the below letter dealing with integrity in the workplace:

Hello Mr. Dillard,
I love your website. I have the same passion about Jesus as you. I am a CPA also and I left the tax prep field last October because I felt there were too many people trying to take un-allowed deductions. Saying use the same as last year. I just wanted your opinion on how you deal with the clients that you have an instinct of not being honest. I just feel the people think I work for the IRS and not saving them money but costing them money and why should they pay me.

What do you say to people who
1)Have same as last year answer for mileage and other expenses?
2)How do you handle the clients that earn income in numerous states?

3) How do you handle the home office?
4) How do you handle unreported gambling income?
5) How do you handle tips?
6)How do you handle meals and other expenses that seem personal and not biz
These are questions that we ask but feels like many tax preparers don’t report and the honest tax preparer looks like we are costing them money.

I know this is a lot. I love taxes, tax planning and bookkeeping. And helping the people in the right tax saving way. I want to get back to doing what I love. Can you answer some of my listed questions. Thanks Mr. Dillard. God Bless,

Frequently we get caught up in the world as it is so easy to do. When Jesus walked the earth, he talked and taught in plain language that we call can understand. Therefore, I believe it is His example that we should emulate and accordingly I drafted this response:

Thanks for visiting www.HisCPA.com My rule of thumb is God’s. I strive not to hang around sinners and mockers (Psalm 1). Many of the best clients I have ever had are those I no longer represent, as my integrity if worth MUCH more than a fee. If you would like to talk, feel  free to give me a call.

Don’t let others lead you to sin. Seek God with all your heart and He will honor your faithfulness. Continue to fight the good fight and not let others lead you towards the path of destruction.
