Atlanta CPA Provides Top Tax Tips for 2010 for Atlanta Taxpayers
Recently we have picked up several new accounts who were also business owners and therefore had substantially more than a taxpayer who predominantly had mortgage interest and charitable contributions. It is widely recommended that all business owners use a CPA who is well experienced with the nuances and tax reporting for small business owners and entrepreneurs. Below is a sampling of the types of issues that have occurred on those returns in elevating those situations to proper bookkeeping, recording and compliance with tax issues.
A C Corporation that can legally convert to an S Corporation to avoid the double taxation of filing as a C Corporation/Form 1120.
A contracting firm that is operating as a proprietorship rather than as an S Corporation thereby exposing all of their personal assets to any potential corporate liability/tort issues.
A filing of a proprietorship/Schedule C was inadvertently reported under the incorrect spouse.
Tax returns where the results of rental properties were not correctly reflected.
Personal tax returns where unreimbursed employee expenses were incorrectly reflected on a Schedule C.
Returns where taxes and penalties were not calculated and assessed for premature distributions form pension funds/401K/IRA.
Returns were depreciation was not reflected on returns for fixed assets purchased in prior years.
Returns where Section 179 Depreciation was not reflected/claimed.
Returns where business mileage is not recorded.
Returns where the Internal Financials, Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss statement listed substantive errors in both classification and amount.
Internal books and records where Interest Expense on Company Debt was not reflected and in error, charged to the Note Payable amount.
An individual who is buying, fixing up and flipping residential homes/rental property in their own name rather than in an LLC, exposing their personal net worth to business liability issues.
