Atlanta Christian CPA: The Beginning to Wisdom is Understanding

Atlanta Christian CPA: The Beginning to Wisdom is Understanding

The word wisdom appears 215 times in the Life Application Version of the Bible. It is one of the most widely examined words in all of the Bible yet one in which the world seems to ignore altogether. Just as we are encouraged Biblically to surround ourselves with wise counsel and to seek wisdom at every turn, so should we seek to first to understand and then to apply what we have learned in our lives. Also, it is the same as in our business practices. Failure to learn what we need to know in advance reminds me of Coach John Wooden’s quote that “Failing to Prepare is Preparing to Fail.”

Proverbs 3:13  Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding.

Proverbs 2:12  Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse.

To help ensure our clients stay well informed when communicating with them and the forwarding of their corporate income tax return and the forwarding of all substantive correspondence and all invoices it is important to keep them apprised of all significant tax issues affecting their business. The below is a sample of a letter to effectively communicate substantive business issues:

This will confirm that we went over the rules of deducting health insurance for owners (required to have W-2 at least for the amount of the health insurance premiums) and that IRS tax law requires all active employee owners to pay a fair and reasonable salary given position and profit.

This is to confirm that you are aware of the need to pay your taxes as you go. Please be reminded that tax law requires you to take a reasonable salary given position and profit. This is to confirm my advice to expect an audit for 2009 as you have decided not to show a salary for 2009 for all active employee owners.

This is to confirm that you are handling all payroll and 1099 issues, your county property tax report, sales tax reports, ambulance and medical licensing issues, and your business license.

This is to confirm that you are aware of the need to have annual Board of Directors, Officers, and Shareholder’s Minutes meetings and that each year you should pay the annual fee with the Secretary of State’s Office to renew your corporations annual registration.
