His CPA PC…Past Teacher at Gwinnett Small Business Development Center
Having taught at the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), a division of the SBA, myself and indeed a past winner of the Georgia Accounting Advocate of the Year, I am more in tuned that most with what new business owners need and should expect. The below is a sample inquiry we might receive off of our web site from a new business owner seeking tax guidance and relief:
We have recently started a new business in Atlanta and are currently in the market for accountants. We are currently doing approximately $10,000 worth of business per month. Our business plan projects sales as high as approximately $30,000 for some months, giving a blended performance of approximately $350,000 in sales for 2011. We project gross profit at 40%. The company currently has two employees and could go up to four in the coming months.
There is extensive experience in our industry but we have no accounting experience. In order for us to have the financial support to achieve our business plan, we feel very strongly that we need a so a CPA with extensive business development and tax planning experience to be responsible for all day-to-day accounting issues, sales and payroll tax filings, payroll processing, general ledger maintenance, liaison with bankers and state and federal providers as needed, tax planning and all financial planning and reporting. We also do not plan on hiring a full-time accountant/bookkeeper for the business.
We are very serious about our process in retaining the right CPA. We would therefore like if you could respond to us by email with a brief service and price quote. We are already a few months into our business and is therefore looking to identify a CPA within the next week or two. Thanks so much for your time.
Below is my response:
Just as a doctor does not weigh you, give you shots, check your height and your pulse so should not an outside CPA do work that is easy to be delegated, taught, or assigned to a bookkeeper or a payroll service. Be sure you work with a CPA who has as much interests and more in helping your keep your hard earned money than he/she does their own billing.
