Duluth/Atlanta CPA Saves. Taxpayer $26,000 plus in Previously Assessed IRS Tax Penalties

Tax Representation is not for those who choose to represent themselves as just as Believers have Jesus Christ to be an Advocate with us with our Heavenly Father (Job 16:19), so should all taxpayers seek to work with a CPA who is well versed with tax representation issues. Recently we had the opportunity to retain a new client who had utilized the services of someone who was not a CPA nor familiar with IRS tax representation issues. Though it took some number of months to address adjudicate the issue, we recently received notification that the IRS abated over $26, 000 in Tax Penalties that had previously been assessed a taxpayer.

Don’t be misled by services telling you can settle by services telling you can settle for pennies on the dollar, as this is partly but mostly not based in absolute truth as often tax penalties such as the above can were abated 100%. However the IRS will not abate any monies during an Offer in Compromise process unless a taxpayer qualifies, which in itself is a facts, strategy and procedural process. No CPA can guarantee what anyone will do much less the IRS, care should be taken to ensure that the client is well apprised on the reasonable scenarios that may occur and frequently well able to advise that tax payment rather than representation is the best process.

Below are articles that you will want to refer to often to help guide you in addressing IRS Representation issues as you address Installment Plans, Back Taxes or an Offer in Compromise.

Atlanta/Duluth  CPA Presents The IRS/Tax Representation Series

Providing Atlanta With Bookkeeping, Accounting Needs & Financial Statements for Decades

This is an article of the IRS & Tax Representation Series. Tax Representation is not one where you can just “settle for pennies on the dollar.” There is not a magic panacea or magic pill that one can take to just make their tax problem go away. Below is a sample of a recent inquiry received from a client:

Dear Mr. Dillard, I found your website while searching for CPAs who specialize in tax help and who offer a free consultation. I then found your advertisement. I appreciate your willingness to help people, so you seem to “fit the bill,” as I am looking for someone trustworthy. I have a tax problem and I need your help.

A couple years ago I negotiated a payment plan with the IRS and pays about $450 a month to them. This hardly makes a dent at all. We are not interested in an Offer of Compromise, but  would like to just pay off what he owes in a lump sum (preferably at lower than what he owes). Is it possible for him to renegotiate what he owes when already in a payment plan? And thus pay a lower lump sum since it is a lump sum (and a bird in the hand)? Do I need a third-party to help him renegotiate?

Also, is it possible to apply for “retroactive” abatement.” Obviously, we’d like to pay as little as possible. Can you help? Thanks,

Below is my response:

While addressing unfiled tax returns and to file back taxes, frequently the options look bleak, as often they are. However there is good news for those who are desirous to look “outside the box” in looking to solve your IRS tax problems. Knowing the ins and outs of varying programs will do much to help you know what is in your best interest. After you have filed you back taxes and got all of your returns filed with the IRS it is then time to turn your attention toward the successful payment of your open IRS obligations.

IRS Installment plans are essentially long range, but are frequently the most convenient way to solve an IRS tax bill short term. However this option is frequently the worst option as interest and penalties continue to be assessed thus ensuring that you continue to owe even more additional monies rather than less. Form 9465 is used by taxpayers with the IRS to make an Installment Agreement Request to set up a monthly payment plan. If at all possible it is recommended that before you set up an installment plan, you look to other options available such as a loan from a bank.

Frequently it is prudent to paid the full amount of the tax and interest in full while asking that the IRS abate any assessed penalties is often a economic and viable business decision to consider. By paying the tax and interest in full, the IRS will often consider/look to work with taxpayers to resolve past back due taxes and penalty abatement.

Atlanta/Duluth GA  CPA Addressing Atlanta Tax Representation Issues for Decades… The IRS/Tax Representation Series

This is an article of the IRS & Tax Representation Series. Tax Representation is not one where you can just “settle for pennies on the dollar.” There is not a magic panacea or magic pill that one can take to just make their tax problem go away. Below is a recent letter received from a client that followed our advice perfectly and found satisfaction with the final outcome:

I did receive the release of Levy in the mail this afternoon and I am faxing a copy to HR.  She stated she would hold off sending the IRS payment from my check for a couple of days and I anticipate that they will receive it in the mail by tomorrow.  So it looks like all is clear for now.  I am ok with the penalty…all in all it has all worked out so much better than I expected.  Thank you for taking on my case and for what I consider a very successful outcome.  What an enormous relief to have all this behind me and not looming over my head year after year.  I am so thankful to God for finding your website and not getting tangled up with all the other “solutions to my tax problems” that were coming my way.  It made a really complicated matter simple and it was so wonderful to do business with someone with integrity in a Christ centered business.  Thank you again!

There are many options to deal with open taxes and to address with the IRS any open monies due. These articles will do much to enlighten and enable you to satisfactorily address any open tax issue monies. Working with a seasoned and qualified CPA who is well versed in tax matters should always be your best and first choice.
