Grow/Community Groups at Sugarloaf United Methodist Church

The second large initiative that I believe can help us all grow and mature more rapidly in our faith is Grow/Community Groups that our church are starting VERY soon. Stay tuned to the church for details as sign up will start on 9-5-10.

Grow/Community Groups will meet weekly & be limited to 12 people to each group and there will be many groups and times to pick and choose from. Tami and I will be leading one of them, and we will most likely meet on Monday evenings. For those seeking to exponentially grow your faith sign up early, as once groups reach their limits they are filled.

Hebrews 10:25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

This is an exciting time in the history of our church and a great way to continue to Serve and Grow in God and to become more like our Creator.

To read more about the groups as information becomes available you can visit Sugarloaf United Methodist Church’s website at http://www.sugarloaf.org/index.da

Transforming Lives/Growing/Seeking God’s Best for Our Lives

Transforming Lives/Growing/Seeking God’s Best for Our Lives

We are called by Christ to humble ourselves and in so doing seek to lay down our life for the needs of others. Just as Christ came to serve the world, we are called to Imitate his actions, emulate His love and join in the Body of Christ to be the very hands and feet of Jesus Christ. Join us for a weekend as we seek in Hope & Faith to be more like Him, to eliminate Fear in our lives, and to Boldly Stand Strong.

Jesus calls us, His people, to be a light unto the world, while knowing that our power is made perfect only in His will. As we seek to fulfill God’s destiny for our lives, we find a peace that surpasses all understanding. God calls us to  listen and in order to do that our mind needs to be still and focused on our Creator, for Faith is “not in knowing that God can, but that God will.” In Isaiah 58:2-14 we can see what the Bible Has to say about True Fasting.  For it is not in our business that we are most apt to discover God, His Glory and His Unchanging Will for Our Lives. Join us as we seek to learn how to draw yet closer to God.

Hebrews 2:10 In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Join us as we seek God’s will and His hand on our lives, our Mission Trip and our churches.

Fast Details:

Saturday, May 22

9 – 9:30AM – Worship and prayer to begin the fast – Connection Café

***We will distribute “fast guides” at the worship which will include Bible passages, inspiration and encouragement and prayers for each of the mission trips.

Sunday, May 23

3 – 4PM – Break the fast with Communion, Celebration and Revelation. – Connection Cafe

Remember….fasting can mean giving up anything….does not have to be food.

Looking forward to fasting with you! God bless you each and every one.

Sugarloaf United Methodist Church is Helping With the Jobless Rate in Duluth

Sugarloaf United Methodist Church is Helping With the Jobless Rate in Duluth

On Friday the Labor Department reported that the U.S. unemployment rate was 10.2% last month.  That was more than expected and the highest rate in more than 26 years.  With employers continuing to cut more jobs than forecast, the economy is still struggling to recover from the recession.  State unemployment rates for October will not be released until later this month, but Georgia was at 10.1% in September and is typically higher than the national unemployment rate.  Our community at Sugarloaf UMC has not been spared.  Kerry Lauria told me Sunday that she knows of at least 75 families in our congregation with one or more unemployed breadwinners, and many more are under-employed.  So, what can you do?

I hope you’ll give serious consideration to joining the Sugarloaf CrossLink group on LinkedIn.  Here’s why:

  • If you’re trying to find a job, you can post a notice on the discussion board and refer to your profile/resume so that your church family knows to be on the lookout for you and to pray for God’s providence.
  • If you aren’t looking for a job, the Sugarloaf CrossLink is a good way to connect with our brothers and sisters who are unemployed/under-employed and to support them with our prayers, our friendship and our professional contacts.
  • If you know of a job opening, the Sugarloaf CrossLink is a good place to post it (actually the Sugarloaf CrossLink Job Openings, a subgroup of the main Sugarloaf CrossLink group).

In addition, you can join LinkedIn and the Sugarloaf CrossLink groups for FREE!

Here’s how to join LinkedIn:

  1. Go to www..linkedin.com.  Enter your first name, your last name and your e-mail address and create a password.  Then, click on the “Join Now” button.
  2. At the next screen you must select your country (United States in the default) and enter your postal code.  In addition, you must at least select your industry from a list of about 150, and depending on the employment status you select, you may also be required to enter your company and your title.  Then, click on the “Enter LinkedIn” button.
  3. At the next screen (your home page on LinkedIn), you can begin joining groups, building your profile and adding applications.  In the meantime, LinkedIn will send a message with a link to confirm your e-mail address.  You must confirm your e-mail address before you can send connect with your contacts through LinkedIn.

If you’re looking for a job, there are always at least 100 professional jobs within 50 miles of SUMC posted on LinkedIn, some exclusively on LinkedIn.  Just click on the “Jobs” link at the top of the screen, enter “30097″ as the postal code and click on the “Search” button.  To cast a wider net, click on “The Web” tab to bring up 40,000+ jobs of all kinds within 50 miles of SUMC found through SimplyHired.  You can refine your search, and when you find something of interest, ask your professional connections (particularly those in the Sugarloaf CrossLink group) to help you gain the inside track.

Here’s how to join the Sugarloaf CrossLink group, once you’re a member of LinkedIn:

  1. Click on “Groups” in the panel on the left side of the screen.
  2. On the right side of the screen, click on the “Find a Group” button.
  3. Enter “sugarloaf crosslink” as the keywords and click on the “Search” button.
  4. Click on the second “Join this group” link to join BOTH the main group and the “Job Openings” subgroup.  Click on the first “Join this group” link to join ONLY the main group.
  5. Review the settings on the next screen and click on the “Join Group” or “Join Subgroup” buttons at the bottom of the next screen.

If you need help navigating LinkedIn, Sugarloaf CrossLink or the “Job Openings” subgroup, call me at 770-235-4276 or send me an e-mail at ken.powers@bellsouth.net.

If you know of others who might benefit or contribute in connecting with the SUMC family on LinkedIn, please invite them to join the Sugarloaf CrossLink group.

In the meantime, may God bless us, everyone!

Speaking Boldly for Our Faith by Atlanta Christian CPA & Author

I love to tell the story of how I was raised at Rehoboth Baptist Church, attended Northpoint Community Church, was a member at Perimeter Church and now at Sugarloaf United Methodist Church. Though a varied background to be sure I have found that churches that teach God’s word are open to all people regardless of race, gender, or back-ground. I have often felt that J.C. “Jesus Christ” really stands for Just Christian. So whether you be Catholic, Episcopal, Presbyterian or Non-denominational thee important part is what we believe rather than the label we put on our worship. When as Believers are out in the world we need to be focusing on the Word of God that unites us rather than what divides us as we want people only to see the love of Christ in us.

When sharing our love for a fallen world we need to bind up the brokenhearted, walk alongside those who are suffering and witness to those who are lost. Teaching others to see God as a one of love, who offers grace to all who seek it should be the watchword by which we live our lives.

Serving as a keynote speaker for your congregation or Bible study group, We bring to your group a new revelations in how to see scripture as well as to unravel the mysteries of the Old Testament. By studying the stories of old, we begin to see that the God of the Ages is the same as the love of Christ in the New Testament. Bringing along the Story of Job in our book Overcoming Life’s 9/11′S and Nehemiah in our book A Voice of One we begin to see great lessons that we can all apply to our lives to bring radical change to the way we both live our lives and to church. Ordaining all who believe to serve as Lay Ministers to do great things for the Kingdom. Join us as we work to “Take Christianity Into the World.”
