John Dillard Chosen SBA's Accountant Advocate of the year in Georgia for 1999

Atlanta, GA – John C. Dillard, CPA of Duluth, GA, has been selected Georgia’s Accountant Advocate of the Year for 1999.
Dillard is among top small business award winners – from each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands, and Guam – who will be honored by the SBA during “National Small Business Week” starting on May 24 th . Dillard and other Georgia small business winners will be honored on May 26 at an Awards Luncheon at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel. This event, in the Cobb Galleria complex, is cosponsored by BellSouth Small Business Services, and ia part of the local celebration of Small Business week.
"John Dillard, with his work in improving the economic and financial climate for small firms, is helping turn dreams into reality for those who want to be successful entrepreneurs.", said SBA Georgia District Director Charles E. Anderson in announcing the agency's statewide award. "We salute Mr. Dillard and others like him, not only for the economic impact they have on their community, but also for the work they do to improve the quality of life for all Americans."
Dillard has owned and operated his own accounting firm for the past 10 years. He was nominated for his SBA Award by the Gwinnett Office of the Georgia Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
"Mr. Dillard has worked with the SBDC in developing and teaching classes and seminars with no fees for his efforts," said the SBDC nominating letter. "He not only provides needed accounting services, but goes well beyond the normal expected service level," added the letter from SBDC, a resource partner of SBA.
Dillard has also taught business education classes for the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce, and the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), another resource partner of the SBA.
Dillard has over 15 years experience in private and public accounting, having started his professional career with Touche Ross & Co., in 1979. He holds a BBA Degree in Accounting from Georgia State University where he graduated Magna cum Laude. Dillard's civic affiliations include the Gwinnett Chamber where he has served on a number of business development committees. He is also a member of the Georgia Society of CPA’s, and the American Institute of CPA's.
Each year for the past 36 years, the President has issued a proclamation declaring Small Business Week as a time when America salutes the achievements and contributions of’ the nation’s 23 million small businesses, “This year's theme for Small Business Week is -- Small Business.., a History of Success, a Millennium of Opportunity,” said District Director Anderson.
